Good morning and welcome to our Monday News Round-up where we take a look at a few news items. Typically they’re involving short term rentals or the Crystal Coast. It might also be anything that I find interesting.
We took a short break while I was doing winter maintenance on our oceanfront rental, but now guests are in and we’re quickly moving into the season.
Time to get started.
The Point in Emerald Isle and Topsail Island listed among Southern Living’s “Eight Most Beautiful Places on the North Carolina Coast.” North Carolina is second only to Florida when it comes to miles of seashore on the east coast of the US. With over 300 miles of beaches (!) we are rich in choices. Anyone who has come to the area more than once is bound to have a favorite. I can’t dispute anything on this list published on February 22. It does a great job of highlighting the diversity of experiences available in this part of the world.
Municipalities may lose the right to regulate STR’s in Arkansas. This is interesting. HB 1445 has passed committee in the Arkansas house and is on it’s way to the full house. This would remove the right to regulate STRs on the municipality level and place it with the state. For anyone who has had a rental in an area of patchwork regulations this sounds like a win. On the other hand, I cant think of any state in the union that is homogeneous enough for this to work well throughout the state.
People renting homes for NFL Draft without a permit receive warnings. The NFL draft is in Green Bay this year. For a city that will probably never host a Super Bowl, this is the highest profile NFL event that may ever take place in this football loving city. Of course, this has lead to a lot of people trying to cash in on the once in a lifetime event. Quick checks show at least 500 units without permits. While there are two permits required that total $950, they do help prevent people from cramming many possibly drunk football fans into a dangerous situation. Staying in a strange basement location with no egress windows is a potential death sentence. The permits require an inspection and advertising a unit without a permit is a $75 a day fine.
And now, our last item. Our 20% off early bird sale is ending on February 28. If you want a vendor space at the Crystal Coast Vacation Rental Show, fill out this form. For questions, email me.
